A gray school building located on the other side of a railroad crossing. In the sky, a tower of clouds are bright red, lit up by the flames of nearby wildfires.

While the fires came within a mile of my school last week and are now moving away, this is what I snapped out the window as I approached the school at 4:45 this morning. I realize every school has challenges, but we have 900 heroic wildlands firefighters sleeping and eating in our building, which exists only because of their work.”
